Correlación bioestratigráfica entre las sucesiones miocénicas marinas de Sant Pau d'Ordal y Sant Llorenç d'Hortons (Depresión del Vallès-Penedès, Barcelona)

Abstract

The paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the St. Pau d'Ordal and La Pedrera de St. Lloren9 d'Hortons sections (Penedes area) is realized on the basis of molluscan fossils and sedimentological criteria. The lateral equivalente of both localities - which are dated to a Langhian-Lower Serravalian age - is deduced. The presence of the pteropod Vaginella austriaca, IUTTL - which is cited for the first time in some localities of the Penedes area - allows us affirm that during this epoch a good communication between the Penedes gulf and the open sea existed.
