Resumen

Psychosocial research has only recently linked gender attitudes and the feminist social identification with gender identity. This article is a critical review of studies on feminist social identity and attitudes. Starting with the theory of collective self-esteem, the studies, the methodologies and the hypotheses that relate the social identity of gender with feminist identity are reviewed. The social representation of feminism emerges as a relevant factor in the process of social identification. Finally, certain limitations in these studies are identified and hypotheses proposed for research and the relationship between the defence of feminist ideology and the social identification as a feminist.
