Abstract

The present article addresses the condition of cartographer filmmaker of Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, who passed away in July 2016. His works, especially the film Life, and Nothing More... (1991) part of the so-called Koker Trilogy, offer a sort of cosmogony in which characters undertake truly everyday feats in the coordinates of a landscape that acts as protagonist. From this space—both exploratory and maieutic, as well as experiential and epiphanic—, the geographical drive of the cinema of origins is recovered, as well as the two features that better define cinematic landscape: the notion of découpage and the concept of movement-image.

Licenciado en Comunicación Audiovisual por la Universitat Pompeu Fabra y profersor del Departamento de Comunicación de esta misma universidad. Es coordinador del Máster Internacional en Estudios Cinematográficos y Audiovisuales y h impartido docencia en otros centros, como la Universitat Ramon Llull - Blanquerna o el ESCAC. Contribuye a la crítica y el análisis fílmico a través de diversas publicaciones nacionales e internacionales y a la gestión cultural desde su participación en la organización de varios festivales cinematográficos como el MICEC (Mostra Internacional de Cine Europeu Contemporani) o el Festival de Cinema Fantàstic de Sitges. Cuenta con una estancia de investigación en la Université Paris-Sorbonne.

Manel Jiménez Morales, Universitat Pompeu Fabra

Licenciado en Comunicación Audiovisual por la  Universitat Pompeu Fabra y en Teoría de la Literatura y Literatura Comparada por la  Universitat de Barcelona. Doctorado en Comunicación Social por la Universitat Pompeu Fabra, de donde es profesor lector en el Departamento de Comunicación y director académico del Centre for Learning Innovation and Knowledge (CLIK). Es también director del Posgrado en Escritura de Humor y Entertenimiento para Programas de Televisión (UPF-IDEC-El Terrat). Ha sido guionista, productor y realizador de varios proyectos cinematográficos y televisivos, así como de programas culturales (Via Digital, Ona Catalana, Ràdio Barcelona/La SER). Contribuye, desde el ensayo y la crítica, en varias publicaciones y editoriales. Ha aportado varios estudios a un nivel individual y dentro de los grupos de investigación en comunicación UNICA y CINEMA.  Cuenta con tres estancias de investigación (University of Oxford, University of California Los Angeles i British Film Institute) y ha impartido docencia en diversas universidades alemanas y británicas.
