Abstract

The Castilian Yosippon preserved in the ms. M-54 is a witness about how Jewish texts were diffused and understood in the Iberian Peninsula during the second half of the 15th century. Translating this text from Hebrew into Castilian supposed not only a linguistic adaptation, but also a cultural adjustment that implied a process of textual change. This paper analyses several passages which reflects the adaptation of the text to a new way of reading. Through them it will be appreciated misunderstandings or deliberated adaptations to a new ideological context.
