Abstract

Based on the theoretical proposal regarding the process of rethinking African contemporaneity, this essay offers a comparative analysis of the novels Crónica de Rua 513.2 by the Mozambican João Paulo Borges Coelho and Disgrace by the South African J.M. Coetzee, whose plots take place during the times of po litical transition of the two countries (independence of Mozambique and the end of apartheid in South Africa). The analysis focuses on the discursive forms of questioning political power that are inscribed in the projects of ethical writing pre sent in both authors’ work.
