Abstract

Cuba has the most important aquifers of medicinal and natural mineral waters in the Caribbean area. In this work, we present an inventory of their hydrogeological characteristics. Aquifers are found in limestones and detritic carbonated rock formations. In general, the recharge of all the thermal, mineral and medicinal aquifers of Cuba has its origin by the infiltration of rainfall. According to the major anions and cations, these Cuban waters are classified as: calcium-bicarbonate, magnesium-bicarbonate and sodium- chloride facies. The main medical components are sulphurous, bromide and silica.
