This article reviews the studies about the movement called Cabanagem, which occurred in the Brazilian Amazon between 1835 and 1840. Although too much studied by Brazilian and foreign scientists, this movement was almost always seen as an armed event. Currently the area of study has greatly expanded and historians and anthropologists give new explanations and sense for the Cabanagem’s fight, analyzing the contemporary directions of these narratives.Downloads
