Abstract

Historically, La Maquinista Terrestre y Marittima, S.A., which was established in Barcelona in 1855, has been the most emblematic firm within the Catalan metal-mechanic industry. In this article, the accounting records of the fixed steam engines being delivered by the firm have been used to analyse the pace and patterns of localization and utilization of those engines.
