López Piñero, a historiographical model.

Abstract

This paper offers a unique examination of the historiographical work of José María López Piñero. Beginning with the famous text Ciencia y técnica (1979), this paper calls attention to his appraisal of the classicism of Lebrija, his antipresentism and his particular appreciation for the sixteenth century as the age of Spanish world's domination, especially in the scientific fields dealing with technology (mining, chemistry, botany, architecture, navigation...). The author, as an anthropologist based in Latin American studies, wishes to express his personal debt to Ciencia y técnica, a work not exempt of criticism.
