Abstract

This article synthesizes the main conclusions obtained by the author in her dissertation for University degree, partly published by the Geography Study Center of Lisbon University Faculty of Arts. It explains the extent that Geography teaching nowadays can contribute and it is contributing, or it is not, to a real environmental education. In this field it tries to identify which the origin of Geography teachers’ concern and care with regard to environmental questions is and how this are reflected in their teaching exercise. It also tries to understand how the students’ expectations are in connection with the relationship between environment and Geography.
