Abstract

During the third quarter of the 19th century the sale of Church properties and of indigenous groups"rsquo; lands had a strong impact on the physical structure of Mexico City reflected in the way houses were subdivided in the central distrit and in the building of community houses containing numerous dwellings for rent in the periphery of the city. We analyze this processes through a comparative study of the houses and dwellings, specially of the average of dwellings per house based in two population censuses taken in 1848 and 1882.
