Healing the wound. The sinews of the Royal Army in the war of the Germanías (1521-1522)
This paper aims to examine the economic and financial foundations of the regular army that, under the command of Viceroy Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, fought against the Valencian agermanats in 1521 and 1522. We also reflect upon how it was understood, given the political culture of the time, as a war that pitted not just loyalists against rebels, but, at least in part, regular troops against militias.
