Resum

Dissociation is common to a range of psychopathogical disorders (multiple personality, post-traumatic stress, psychogenic fugue, psychogenic amnesia, depersonalization and derealization syndromes, etc.). A validation of the DES (Dissociative Experiences Scale) developed in the USA by Bernstein and Putnam (1986) is presented in this paper. The translated version of the scale was applied to a sample of 222 undergraduates (normal population) and 17 schizophrenics (inpatient population). Our results can be summarized as follows: a) we found a great variability in the response pattern in the normal population: b) the factor analysis shows a complex structure of the scale; c) we found a high interpretability of the items in both populations, through two different mechanisms; d) the scale is most informative if it is not selfreported; e) we found no sex differences. In short, results highlight the value of exploring objective culturally adjusted systems to measure dissociation.
