Resum

In recent years, the concept of empowerment is gaining interest in the programs of support toward the psychosocial integration of people with disabilities. This skill concept involves the possession of multiple skills that help people cope with adversity, that is why the development of empowerment can be high among these people to improve their quality of life.

The objectives of the study discusses the ability to empower a group of people with disabilities in terms of age, education, occupation and income.

Involving 98 people with different types of disabilities (physical, intellectual, visual and auditory), they answered the adapted Spanish version of the empowerment Scale Rogers, Chamberlin, Ellison y Crean (1997), designed to measure this capacity.

The analysis indicated high levels of the capacity of youth, showing a greater extent in people with acquired disability as well as motor and visual disabilities.

This suggest that this ability can vary and evolve and hence the importance of promoting it in programs encouraged in-action.
