This study aims to examine the suppression exerted by optimism on intolerance to uncertainty when it is related to purpose in life. To establish this possible suppression relationship, the well-known protecting role of optimism on mental health is taken as an initial reference. To approach this proposal, a cross-sectional study was conducted on college population to analyze the association between these variables. The study was done on a sample of 650 tertiary education students from different universities. Results show the suppressive effect of optimism on intolerance to uncertainty when its influence on purpose in life is examined. This variable is highly interesting for this population since it directs its efforts to the development of a well-defined life project.
