Modifying burnout levels and resistant personality in a group of athletes using a mindfulness program
Abstract
This study analyzes the effects that a mindfulness training and development meditation program has on burnout and resistant personality in a group of athletes. An experimental group which was given a mindfulness course and a control group which was not, participated in the study. Variables were measured in both groups along the same three tests (pretest/posttest and follow-up). The analysis done when the intervention program was over showed statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in the variables studied. There was a significant improvement in the experimental group with respect to the control group in the three evaluated dimensions of resistant personality (control, commitment and challenge), and in two of the three dimensions of sport burnout (little personal satisfaction and emotional exhaustion). These dfifferences were maintained five months after the end of the intervention.Downloads
