Family, social support and delinquent behavior in adolescence: direct and mediating effects
Abstract
The study analyses the link between characteristics of the family system (family functioning, communication and satisfaction), perceived social support, and delinquent behaviors in adolescence. The sample comprised 431 adolescents at schools in the Community of Valencia. The results showed the direct effects of communication problems with the mother and perceived support from the father on delinquent behavior. Furthermore, we found a mediating effect of perceived support from the father between communication problems with the mother and the adolescent’s involvement in delinquent behavior. The implications of these findings are discussed.Downloads
