Internet is used more for socialising than for work. Meeting people and building up relationships on the web is one of the new techonology's main attractions. The Internet allows new forms of communicating and socialising. This article discusses the psychosocial aspects that motivate people to meet others via the Internet, and the personal and social consequences that this channel of communication has for its users. The depth of virtual relationships varies widely; it ranges,from making new acquaintances to falling in love. We describe these relationships and present ernpirical data from the research carried out to date in thisfield.Downloads
