According to Eysenck (1952) impulsivity and sociability are components of the broader trait of extraversion, whereas others have suggested that impulsivity and sociability represent distinct factors. Dickman (1990) suggest that there are two types of impulsive personality trait: functional and dysfunctional impulsivity. The present paper investigates the relationships between functional and dysfunctional impulsivity and the personality traits of extraversion, neuroticism and psychoticism. The results show positive correlations between psychoticism and both functional and dysfunctional impulsivity; between extraversion and both functional and dysfunctional impulsivity, and negative correlations between neuroticism and functional impulsivity.Downloads
