Abstract

We aim to show that certain behavioral variables may modify a social representation (in this case, of politics). The elements of the representation (connected versus non-connected, and the number one versus number three) were manipulated in a counter-attitudinal message (cognitive dissonance). The representation was only substantially modified in the case of three non-connected, peripheral elements.
