Euthanasia can be examined from the perspectives afforded by a range of disciplines and according to various lines of intellectual inquiry. This article deals with euthanasia from the perspective afforded by philosophy and establishes links between the concept and those of freedom and social responsibility. Looking beyond the political debate presented to the electorate concerning the legalization of euthanasia, we urgently need to consider, in depth, the ethical principies of freedom and responsibility.
