Abstract

Aims. Adapting the Emotion Matching Task (EMT) into Catalan, and assessing the psychometric properties of the adapted version, at the item and test level. EMT test assesses emotional knowledge in 3- to 6-year-old children.

Method. At least two different sources of information were used (children, parents, teachers) to assess the emotional knowledge, and the language and social competence of 66 children aged from 3-5 years, who were administered the EMT and ELI tests. Validation proceeded by developing empirical evidence based on relations of test scores to other variables, and evidence based on internal structure.

Results. The Catalan version showed good psychometric properties. Item analysis revealed that almost all items showed acceptable levels of difficulty, discrimination, reliability, and validity indices. Internal consistency as measured by Cronbach’s alpha (α = .89) was quite good. Evidence of convergent validation was found, together with a multisource effect that happens to contribute to construct-relevant variance. Additional evidence needs to be provided about reporting subscores on the test.
