Rules for the submission of manuscripts and reviews in the new phase of the journal

INDICE HISTÓRICO ESPAÑOL

Guidelines for authors

In the writing of the texts, the authors must follow the Criteria of the University of Barcelona (https://www.ub.edu/cub/criteris.php), which have a similarity with Chicago Manual Style.

Papers are accepted in Spanish, English, French, Italian and Portuguese. Papers may also be submitted in official languages of the Spanish State: Catalan, Basque and Galician.

Articles should be between 8,000 and 12,000 words for the "Research Articles" and "State of the Question" sections, between 5,000 and 7,000 words for the "Didactics of History" section and between 800 and 1,200 words for the "Reviews" section, including notes, bibliography, figures, graphs and appendices. They should be presented with 1.5 line spacing, in Times New Roman 12 point font, and with numbered pages consecutively and without headings. In the case of reviews, each one must be headed by a bibliographical reference of the book reviewed according to the following model:

SURNAME, Name, Title in italics, Publisher, place, year, number of pages. The signature of the author of the review should be included at the end of the review in lowercase and italics: Name Surname. If you wish, you may add your institutional affiliation.

Tables, graphs and maps must be numbered consecutively, inserted in the text (unless they are part of an Appendix) and be original. They should also have a title that identifies them and specify the sources used in their preparation.

Textual quotations, when they exceed five lines, must be indented on the left and single-spaced. The author's insertions, if necessary, should be enclosed in brackets.

References:

References will be placed in footnotes, numbered, in superscript, linked and always after the punctuation mark. They will be used to provide additional data or observations to the content of the text, and to cite in abbreviated form the bibliographical references and archive sources used.

Bibliographical notes should include only the author's surname, the year of publication and, if necessary, the page(s) preceded by a colon. For example: Castells, 2001: 25. If there are more than three authors, only the first author may be included, followed by the expression "et al.”.

Abbreviated citations should always be made in the notes, and never in the text.

In the case of archival sources, an abbreviated reference should be made with the initials of the archive or documentation centre and its location reference.

Sources:

The consulted sources of all types (archives, newspaper libraries, documentation centre, companies, epigraphic, numismatic, literary, papyrological...) should be specified in their own section before the bibliography.

Bibliography:

The complete bibliography should appear at the end of the article, arranged alphabetically and, for each author, in chronological order, from the oldest to the latest, and separated by a line break.

References to books must necessarily include the author's surname (in capital letters), the first name or initial (in lowercase), the full title of the work (in italics), the place of publication, the publisher and the year of publication. Optionally, after the title, the edition number, the name of the translator or any other information considered relevant can be indicated.

Example: SURNAME, First name, Title of the book, Publisher, Place, year.

References to book chapters must necessarily include the author's surname (in capital letters), the first name or initial (in lowercase), the title of the book chapter (in inverted commas), the coordinator/editor and the title of the complete work to which the chapter belongs (in italics), the place of publication, the publisher, the year of publication and the pages it comprises.

Example: SURNAME, First name, "Title of chapter", in SURNAME, First name of coordinator/editor, Title of the complete work, Publisher, Place, year, pp.pages of the chapter.

References to journal articles must necessarily include the author's surname (in capital letters), the first name or initial (in lowercase), the title of the article (in inverted commas), the name of the journal (in italics), the volume and/or number of the journal, the date of publication and the pages it comprises.

Example: SURNAME/S, First name, "Title of the article", Name of the journal, volume, number, year, pp.pages.

Electronic resources:

Electronic resources must be cited following the basic criteria used for referencing bibliographic resources, but some essential variants must be added in order to locate the electronic source appropriately. These variants are the type of medium, the availability and access and the date of consultation.

As far as possible, electronic resources should be cited according to the following general model: PRIMARILY RESPONSIBLE. Title. Secondary responsible(s). [Media type]. Edition. Place of publication: Publisher (Collection), date of publication, date of update or revision. Physical description. Notes. <Availability and access>. [date of consultatio]. Standard number.

Other aspects for the presentation of the works

Papers should be submitted through the UB's journal manuscript management system (https://revistes.ub.edu/index.php/IHE/user/register). Authors must register in order to be able to submit papers and must fill in all the information requested.

Authors must initially submit different documents, using Microsoft Word or OpenOffice formats:

1º- Authors' details: title, full details of all authors, including institutional affiliations (institution, city, country), ORCID ID, short curriculum vitae (less than 150 words) and e-mail addresses. Funding agencies or acknowledgements may also be indicated.

2º- Original:  Length of the text: between 8,000-12,000 words for the sections "Research Articles" and "State of the Question", between 5000 and 7000 words for the section "Didactics of History" and between 800 and 1200 words for the "reviews, including notes, figures, graphs, bibliography and appendices".

Articles and State of the Question: The author must send two originals. One containing the following information: title, name and surname of the author, academic affiliation, email address and ORCID number. It must also include a summary in Spanish and another in English (of less than 150 words each one), accompanied by 5 or 6 keywords in both languages.

In the other -which will be used to carry out the evaluation- it must appear the title, the abstracts in Spanish and English (of less than 150 words each one), with the 5 or 6 keywords in both languages. But it must be excluded: the name and surname of the author, academic affiliation, email and ORCID.

After developing the evaluation process, and having accepted the work for publication: The author will correct the errors and add the recommendations suggested by them. It will send a new revised copy, in which it will add the following information:

Title, name and surname of the author, academic affiliation, email and ORCID number.

Summary in Spanish and 5-6 keywords.

Summary in Catalan and 5-6 keywords.

Abstract in English and 5-6 keywords.

Name and surname, brief resume (CV) of the author.

Then it will include the text of the work, with notes, images inserted in the corresponding place and bibliography at the end (it is recommended to read the sections in which it is exposed how to cite bibliography and footnotes).

It is imperative to apply the Rules of the journal. The non-adaptation of the text or the procedure to the Norms of the magazine will suppose the return of the work to the author.

No articles that do not meet all these requirements will be sent for review.

The journal warns authors that their manuscripts may be subject to plagiarism assessment processes through the Similarity Check system.

Book reviews: It is necessary to include the bibliographic record (see the section on how to make the bibliographic file) at the beginning. After the text, it includes: name and surname of the author, academic affiliation, email and ORCID ID.

Evaluation system

The Editorial Board of ÍNDICE HISTÓRICO ESPAÑOL will carry out a preliminary review of the originals (articles and state of the matter) received within a maximum period of one month from their receipt, which may be rejected if their content or presentation does not meet the journal's requirements.

The evaluation system is based on anonymous external evaluators, using a double-blind system (anonymous for both the evaluator and the author). Once the text has been provisionally accepted, it will be sent to at least two external reviewers, who must report on it, using the form that the journal will send them with the text. Under no circumstances the reviewers may be members of the journal's Editorial Board.

Having regard to the reviewers' reports, The Editorial Board, will decide, within a maximum period of six months from receipt, on the publication of the article received. The author will receive a report stating the reasons for acceptance, the modifications to be made before possible publication or rejection.

For those articles that require modifications, publication will always be conditional on their incorporation into the new version of the article. However, the final decision on publication lies with the Editorial Board.

Once the article or state of the matter has been definitively accepted for publication, it must be resubmitted in strict compliance with the journal's Rules for Authors.

Book reviews will not be evaluated, although it will be ensured that they are written by people qualified in the matter.
