Abstract

The aim of this research was the acoustic analysis of stress clash through one American Spanish speaker's tokens. Tonal and temporal measurements were taken from intonation contours and oscillographic traces. Data were transformed through arithmetic and logarithmic z-score normalization. Results showed a trend of compensation: lower F0 values and longer durations, and vice versa, in order to re-establish prominence contrasts. These findings suggested that stress clash avoidance does not occur in Spanish.
