Validació de la carta vocàlica del català oriental central mitjançant la técnica de l’escalament multidimensional
Abstract
Various authors have found the acoustic parameters that allow us to set up the vowel chart for Catalan from the values of the first two formants. The present study aims to confirm that these are the acoustic parameters that better define vowel timbre using the method of Multidimensional Scaling (MDS). We analised the productions of four subjects -adult speakers of the central variety of Catalan-o For each sample obtained the values of the fundamental frequency and the first three formants with the aim of creating a table containing the "euclidian distances; afterwards we applied the ALSCAL algorithm analysis. The results show a bidimensional space with widely satisfactory adjustment rate in which the eight Catalan vowels are represented. The chart obtained from MDS is structurally exact to the one obtained from the first two vowel formants.
