Abstract

El día 15 de abril de 1927 se desató, en las páginas de La Gaceta Literaria, una de las polémicas culturales más importantes del siglo XX en el contexto iberoamericano con la publicación del manifiesto «Madrid, meridiano intelectual de Hispanoamérica». La importancia de aquella polémica para las literaturas americanas ha sido frecuentemente estudiada, pero nunca se ha prestado demasiada atención a interpretar la recepción del manifiesto de Guillermo de Torre por parte de las diferentes literaturas ibéricas. El presente artículo recupera la intervención de uno de los principales escritores catalanes, Agustí Calvet «Gaziel», que da la medida de hasta qué punto aquella polémica afectaba también a la literatura catalana.
