Abstract

The analysis of violence in Guimarães Rosa’s novel Grande Sertão: veredas reveals references to the Brazilian historical conflicts of that time, situated between town and country, the government and people of the country, the Winners and the Forgotten people of history. Furthermore, the theme of violence comes at a tension between a memory not forgotten, related to the repression, and the poverty of experience that’s not worth remembering.
