Abstract

This article analyzes the causes, main characters, and consequences of the critical controversy initiated in Barcelona’s magazine, Destino, in June 1959 regarding the situation of Catalan theatre: the causes for its decadence, possible solutions, its needs, etc. After a first article written by Destino’s director, Néstor Luján, followed a six month discussion in which several personalities of the Catalan culture took part: Josep Maria de Sagarra, Joan Oliver, Frederic Roda, and the editor Jaume Aymà.
