Abstract

This paper aims to examine representations of the present day Argentinian agrotoxic field and the narratives it generates through a treatment of the spatial relations and temporal figurations in the novel Distancia de rescate (2014) by Samanta Schweblin. The novel reveals different levels of temporality: the cycle of human life, natural time, and the heterochronic temporality of the narration. Distancia de rescate is also a metafictional reflection, involving spatial determinations and temporal gradations, about how to narrate a story nowadays, a story about the urgency of rescues in a pampero scenario where the laws of nature are challenged intervening and even replacing its creations, its biodiversity threatened and destroyed: the rescuing of one’s life and of what is important in the story that can provide thickness to a new rural narrative.

Lucía De Leone es doctora en Letras (UBA) e investigadora del CONICET. Jefa de trabajos prácticos en la materia Teoría y análisis literario (UNA). Es coeditora del libro Escrito en el viento. Lecturas sobre Sara Gallardo (Buenos Aires, FFyL, UBA, 2013), y preparó y prologó la edición de Almafuerte y El libro humilde y doliente de Salvadora Medina Onrubia (Córdoba, Buena Vista, 2014). Prologó y curó la edición del libro de Sara Gallardo, Macaneos. Las columnas de Confirmado (1967-1972) (Buenos Aires, Ediciones Winograd, 2015). Dictó cursos y seminarios sobre literatura argentina y latinoamericana en UNSAM, UNLu y en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras (UBA). Ha publicado numerosos artículos en libros especializados y revistas académicas nacionales e internacionales. Es miembrx de varios proyectos de investigación (PICT, PIP, UBACYT) sobre literatura argentina y latinoamericana de los siglos XX y XXI, teoría literaria y género. Se desempeña como secretaria de redacción de Mora, revista del Instituto Interdisciplinario de Estudios de Género. Su perspectiva de trabajo se inscribe en el campo de la crítica cultural, la crítica literaria y los estudios de género.
