Abstract

This article undertakes a chronological reading of some of the theoretical-political texts that laid the foundations for the artistic doctrine of socialist realism as an axiological apparatus imposed from the Soviet state. It argues that the Stalinist doctrine of art takes to its extreme Lenin’s dispositions about “party literature” and the recovery of bourgeois cultural heritage. In this sense, the article poses that the axiological apparatus mobilized by this doctrine brings together and eventually confounds political and artistic values.
