Abstract

This paper offers a critical approach to the practice of reading within the framework of World Literatureas a new paradigm and theoretical order within Comparative Literature. To this end, it carries out a comparative reading of Rudyard Kipling’s novel Kim (1901) in order to test the theories and different modes of reading exemplified by Edward W. Said's Culture and Imperialism (1993) and David Damrosch's How to Read World Literature (2009). Consequently, this paper focuses on reading as a specificity of the comparatist practice, and as a crisis in the face of globalization and the internationalization of comparatism.
