Abstract

In Umberto Eco’s works, both literary and essayistic, architecture is always present. The Italian author goes beyond the simple representation of cities and buildings to establish a dialogue with some of the most important thinkers of architecture and urbanism of the second half of the 20th century, in order to appropriate their discourses as a working tool for his aesthetic and intellectual project. Also, it is observed how from his discipline —semiotics— Eco proposes new points of view to face the urban reality that followed after the disenchantment with Modern Architecture after the Second World War.
