Abstract

In this article I will use the television series The Handmaid’s Tale in two different ways. First, I will take its plot as a way of illustrating some of the main features of the theory of society of the Greek-French philosopher Cornelius Castoriadis. Having done this, I will reflect on the importance of cultural products in social transformation, specifically on the role played by television series in general, and The Handmaid’s Tale in particular, in the possibility of desirable social responses to the socio-ecological crisis in which society is currently immersed.
