Abstract

This article analyzes the books

Why you came back every summer

(2018) and

Where I do not walk

(2021) by the author Belén López Peiró. It will demonstrate the value that the gaze acquires within the plot, which narrates the experiences of sexual abuse suffered during the author/narrator’s adolescence. The testimony and the non-fiction make visible the conditions in which the abuse took place and also show, years later, the context that allowed the empowerment of the victim. In this sense, the marks of violence experienced on the body acquire a new meaning by breaking the silence and enabling a restorative effect for the protagonist.
