Abstract

The therapeutic relationship contributes to the outcome of psychotherapy and enjoys empirical support, which reflects the need for valid and reliable measures. The objective was to confirm the internal structure of the Revised Help Alliance Questionnaire, Patient version (HAq-II-P) and collect evidence of its relationship with other constructs in a Colombian sample of 205 adults in mental health settings. To show the content of the test, the linguistic adaptation to the Colombian context was carried out and the level of agreement ()  of the evaluation by expert judges was established. Good indices were obtained in the McDonald Alpha and Omega coefficients, for the total of the HAq-II and the Positive Alliance dimension; however, in the Negative Alliance dimension they were poor. The two-dimensional structure was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis with excellent fit indices. The scores of the total and the Positive Alliance dimension did not have significant correlations with emotional symptomatology, general health, empathy, perception of environmental reinforcement and level of activation. The HAq-II-P presented good psychometric qualities for its use in the Colombian clinical population; however, the total rating of the scale and not by dimensions, the limitations of the study, and future directions are discussed.
