Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate whether Self-efficacy in the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) functions as a mediating variable in the relationship between Role overload and the dimensions of Burnout Syndrome (BS). A sample composed of 158 Brazilian distance education professors. The Burnout Syndrome Evaluation Questionnaire, the inverted Subscale of Self-efficacy in the use of ICTs of the Technostress Scale and the Role Overload Subscale of the Psychosocial Stressors Scale in the Work Context were used as instruments. The results obtained through linear regression analysis confirmed the hypothesis that Self-efficacy in the use of ICTs functions as a mediating variable in the relationship between the dimensions of Role overload and BS.
