About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Boletín Americanista is a scientific publication published by the History of America area of the Faculty of Geography and History of the Universitat de Barcelona, which is a forum for debate on the history of America aimed at a specialized audience. The aim is to publish original articles that contribute to the knowledge of the history of America, reflect current historiographical trends, and encourage scientific debate. The journal covers social, political, economic, and cultural topics from the pre-Columbian world to the present.

 

Peer Review Process

Boletín Americanista publishes original and unpublished articles and dossiers, as well as book reviews, which will include the dates of receipt, acceptance, and publication. The language of publication is Spanish; the abstract is in Spanish, English, and Catalan. The requirement is that the texts must be original, that they have not been published previously, and that they are not under evaluation for incorporation in other publications.

To guarantee a quality final product, the following refereeing system is stipulated.

Boletín Americanista will acknowledge receipt of the originals sent by the authors.

The Editorial Board may reject an article, without the need to proceed to its evaluation, when it considers that it does not meet the standards, both in terms of form and content, or does not fit the thematic profile of the publication.

After this preliminary analysis, all articles will be submitted to an external review process according to the «peer» and «double-blind» system, in which two external reviewers will initially participate, and a third one will be called upon in case of discrepancy in the evaluation. The reviewers are researchers of recognized academic prestige and specialists in the field. The anonymity of both the author and the reviewers will be maintained; a list of all reviewers will be published every three years.

All authors whose articles have been accepted or rejected by the Editorial Board will be notified in writing of the reasons for this decision. Unless circumstances are beyond the journal's control, a such response will be made no later than six months after receipt. 

Each published article will indicate the dates of receipt and approval. The maximum time elapsed from receipt of the article to its publication is one year, although this may be altered depending on the journal's programming.

The Editorial Board will make the decision, taking into account external reports, on the publication or rejection of each article.

Book reviews do not require external evaluation according to the «peer» and «double-blind» systems.

 

The frequency of publication is biannual.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate free access to its contents based on the principle that is making research freely available to the public favours the global exchange of knowledge.

The journal does not charge authors for publication.

 

Journal History

Boletín Americanista is a scientific journal published by Revistas Científicas de la Universitat de Barcelona (RCUB) and Edicions UB. Since 1959 it has been a forum for debate on the history of America aimed at disseminating academic productions for a specialized audience. Since 2010 it has been published every six months. It aims to facilitate interdisciplinary debate on the past and present of American countries. Research on the pre-Columbian past, colonial history, as well as the contemporary and current history of the American republics, without excluding scientific fields such as anthropology, sociology and art. The journal also accepts articles that establish comparisons with other geographical areas but from an American perspective. Boletín Americanista publishes articles and dossiers, unpublished and original, as well as book reviews, which will include the dates of receipt, acceptance and publication. The language of publication is Spanish; the abstract is in Spanish, English and Catalan. The requirement is that the texts must be original, that they have not been published previously, and that they are not under evaluation for incorporation in other publications. External evaluators review the originals, and the final decision -taken by the Editorial Committee- is communicated to the author. The maximum time elapsed from the reception of the article to its publication is one year, although it may be altered according to the journal's schedule. The frequency of publication is every six months.
