Indios y Mestizos en la España moderna. Estado de la cuestión
Abstract
In the present article we do a global balance on the saubject matter of the Indians and half-caste in the Modern Spain. During the first years there was a notable flow of Indians that was stopped in the second half of the century, after the approval of the New Laws. The principal markets slave holders of the Peninsula were Lisbon and Seville. After the promulgation of the New Laws of 1542 many of these Indians stopped being slaves to turn into servants. In the same epoch the links became frequent between black and Indian slaves, denoting the existence of a social similar status for both ethnic. Very different Case was that of the noble Indians who, on the contrary, received a privileged treatment. Also the half-caste ones legitimized by his parents and sent to the Peninsula had a good time, depending on his economic availability, a good social position.Downloads
