Abstract
The Local Chamber of Recife, the capital of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco was created to solve the conflicts that aroused from the confrontation between Portuguese merchants and landowners at the beginning of the XVIIIth century, and so allowing the former to enter into local politics. We are looking for a profile of the group that first held local posts within the period going from 1710 to 1822, taking into account their social origins, their financial activities as well as their family ties.Downloads
