Abstract

Letter writing as a means to publicly acknowledge gifts granted by a saint or Virgin is a fairly common practice in the Christian tradition In this paper we analyze one of these cases from a group of letters with stories of promises made by devotees of the Virgen del Valle de Catamarca and the graces received They were collected and published by Father Bernardino Orellana between 1896 and 1906 We selected those promises made in situation of disease from which the devotees created bonds with a canonized and prestigious Marian devotion as was the case of Virgen del Valle
