Domination and rebellion are two aspects that are embedded in Bolivian historiography. In this article, the focus is on some achievements of the indigenous population in its struggle. The fi rst argument is that the relationship between the civil society and the State through collective representation, pressure and negotiation that characterized the Bolivian society was developed around the property of land (present already at the end of XVIII century). The second argument is that the persistence of the demands of indigenous population but also their collaboration and political alliance with the politicians of the period are key in order to understand their relative success in the «detournement» of the law.Downloads
