THE CONQUEST OF MEXICO IN THE CINEMA: THE CASE OF THE VIRGIN OF GUADALUPE.
Keywords:
Virgin of Guadalupe, Mexico, Cinema, National identity.Abstract
One of the constants of Mexican historical cinema is the legend of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which has been brought to the screen several times since the early days (Tepeyac, 1917) until today. The way of presenting this fact has changed according to the time the film was shot: reverent and patriotic between 1942 and 1960 (La Virgen que forjó una patria, 1942); obliquely revisionist in later, more free-thinking decades (Nuevo Mundo, 1976), and again from a conservative point of view in the latest contribution to date, Guadalupe (2006).Downloads
