Abstract

Although it is assumed that Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican society achieved high levels of urban development it is also true that we are so far to understand ancient Indian conceptions on space and territoriality within urban districts and neighbourhoods The city of Mexihco-Tenochtitlan has become a fruitful arena for scienti c literature interested in morphology, inner organiza- tional structure, and the degree of demographic integration reached by the Az- tecs Nevertheless, we lack substantial monographic studies about emic behav- ioural patterns on it The present paper deals with available documentary data in main Colonial ethnohistorical sources that portray paramount historical events on the origin of the native urban quarters of Cuepopan-Tlaquechiuhca and Teo- pan Data-check shows suggestive approximations to the ancient sacred urban topography, as well as interesting symbolical constructions on both districts
