The catechisms and manuals of etiquette that circulated in Venezuela during the period 1830-1855 sought to regulate the conduct and education of men and women, developing codes of behavior in society In that sense, these are a prime source for cultural history studies Besides to its main function was to be the instruments disclosure, these resources were used by the State to en- sure dissemination and the social consolidation, coinciding with a period in which the ideals of modernity, progress and social development gained strength
