Work and postemancipation in Haiti
Keywords:
Haitian Revolution, Post-emancipation period, Agrarian legislationAbstract
This article analyzes the social structures behind the Haitian Revolution, and how the different aspirations of blacks and mulattos during the revolution of independence (1791-1804) shaped the post-abolition period. In spite of the changes in agrarian law after independence, the failure to provide working conditions adapted to the rural workers’ demands became one more obstacle faced by Haiti in the process of building a prosperous and free nation.Downloads
