Abstract
This study analyzes the existing relationships between the communications media, the sensation of insecurity, electoral campaigns and the criminal policy. Such relationships are explained through the experience of the last presidential election campaign held in Venezuela. First, a theoretical and contextual framework is developed to later explain how insecurity has become the main theme on the public agenda in the country.
