Abstract

Some decades ago the international community thought that many of the plagues that have beaten human beings through history and have influenced seriously the demographic resources on our planet could be eradicated. However the success achieved against smallpox, declared effaced in 1980, some of the most injurious plagues like cholera, malaria, tuberculosis or yellow fever have reversed lately and at the same time new ones like aids have arisen. All this contradicts the dominant paradigm about infectious diseases. In this article the new situation is analysed from a geographical point of view.
