Housing and heritage building restoration: the case of Bogotá

Abstract

In this article we present the main results of a research done on the possibility of restoring buildings and properties with heritage value currently used as tenement houses in down town Bogotá. This was done by applying an experimental model which allowed us to establish the different management scenarios and their feasibility, well aware of three crucial concerns: first, the restoration of architectural buildings of modest heritage value; second, to provide solutions to the housing deficit by restoring and improving the actual housing capacity of buildings currently used as tenement houses, and finally, restoring the relevant properties without ejecting their customary tenants.
