Influence of land politics on firms location in metropolitan areas: the case of Zaragoza

Abstract

The influence of some politic measures implemented by the local governments –supplying low cost land and promoting servicing of industrial land– on firms decisions concerning industrial location in metropolitan areas is an opened question. The city of Zaragoza (Spain) has been taken as study case and empirical material is given by a survey and a logit analysis in order to check whether or not such decisions vary according to the characteristics of the firms. The results indicate that the land cost is an important factor for all the firms, while the servicing of industrial land is important for some kinds of firms (medium sized, owner of their buildings, central premises, recently established, moved from the inner ring of metropolitan area and manufacturing intermediate demand products).
