Abstract

The Spanish urban development model during the second half of the 20th century caused the loss of a large part of architectonic-industrial patrimony in cities due to a lack of awareness of its patrimonial value, inadequate protective legislation, the high strategic value of the sites and the availability of another type of more socially-valued buildings (churches, palaces etc.) for responding to the accessibility requirements of some uses or equipment. The result has been the demolition or mutilation of industrial buildings and their reuse linked to urban development strategies of land reclassification in Spanish cities during the last third of the 20th century.
